When you think of Chuncheon, does dakgalbi come to mind first? The city has another soul food worth seeking out: refreshing makguksu, or buckwheat noodles.
Among the countless makguksu restaurants in the region, we visited Yupori Makguksu, a beloved local institution that has stood in the same spot for more than 50 years.
Rather than relying on flashy presentation, this restaurant lets the deep, natural flavor of its ingredients do the talking.

1. Essential Information Before You Go
Located in a quiet area just outside central Chuncheon, Yupori Makguksu is an ideal destination for a scenic drive.
Address: 62-2 Yupori, Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon, Gangwon-do
Hours: Daily, 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. (last order at 7:30 p.m.)

Notable for: The restaurant has appeared on several television programs, including Master of Living, and is a proven favorite visited by the popular mukbang creator Tzuyang.

2. The Heart of Yupori Makguksu: Mild Dongchimi and Honest Noodles
Once you sit down and order makguksu, a separate kettle of chilled dongchimi broth arrives, topped with delicate ice crystals. You pour it over the noodles to suit your taste.

3. A Meal Best Enjoyed with Chuncheon’s Natural Scenery
The double portion of makguksu I ordered looked as if it were shouting, “I’m buckwheat!” from every angle.
I added just enough dongchimi broth to lightly coat the noodles. The flavor was never overpowering, yet it had a subtle appeal that kept drawing me back for another bite.
After the meal, I gazed at the mist hanging over Chuncheon’s rain-soaked mountain slopes and wondered whether there could be a better digestif.
If you want to escape the crowded tourist spots, take a quiet drive through the countryside, and fill up on an authentic bowl of makguksu made according to a 50-year tradition, this is the place to go.

For the Real Chuncheon, Look Beyond the Flash
Yupori Makguksu is likely to satisfy diners who appreciate the pure, nuanced flavor of quality ingredients more than those seeking something intensely seasoned or flashy.
If you’re looking for a genuinely good makguksu restaurant in Chuncheon, we highly recommend making a stop here.

The mist drifting across the unnamed mountain slopes of rain-washed Chuncheon somehow feels like the perfect aid to digestion after a meal.
