Seoul Summer Beach Brings Summer Fun to Gwanghwamun

Gwanghwamun Square Transforms Into an Urban Summer Retreat

Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square and Sejong-ro Park will become an urban getaway where visitors can cool off and relax. Organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization, 2026 Seoul Summer Beach will run for 21 days, from July 20 to August 9.

According to the city, this year’s event will be held under the slogan “Wave Summer, Play Seoul.” Alongside water attractions, the festival will feature sandy play areas, rest spaces, hands-on activities and food zones, giving residents and domestic and international visitors a chance to enjoy summer in the heart of the city.

Water Play Zone to Feature Pools and Water Slides

The event’s Water Play Zone will offer a range of attractions, including swimming pools, water slides, a water bucket and a bounce pool. The facilities are designed primarily for children and families to enjoy together.

According to Seoul’s cultural affairs announcements, a floor fountain and additional water-play facilities will also operate around Gwanghwamun Square. Changing rooms and drying facilities will be available for visitors’ convenience, although some facilities may operate on adjusted schedules depending on weather conditions.

Sand Play Areas, Flea Markets and Food Trucks

Beyond the water attractions, the Play Wave Zone will feature a Sand Agit made up of a sandy playground and shaded rest areas. With cooling spaces and interactive programs on offer, visitors who do not plan to get in the water can also enjoy the festival grounds.

The Play Market Zone will host small-business flea markets and food trucks. Promotional programs by organizations and companies, public participation events and special cultural performances will also take place, offering a variety of things to see from the afternoon into the evening.

Opening Hours and How to Visit

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s regional festival listings, the event will run daily from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. The festival will take place around Gwanghwamun Square and Sejong-ro Park, and admission is listed as free.

Some water attractions will operate through on-site registration and wristband distribution. Visitors should check availability and waiting procedures at the event information desk, and guardians should supervise children to ensure their safety.

Positioning Seoul as a Leading Summer Destination

2026 Seoul Summer Beach combines the symbolic setting of Gwanghwamun Square with water-based attractions to create one of Seoul’s signature summer festivals. Its key appeal is the chance to enjoy water activities, relaxation, performances and shopping in one highly accessible downtown location.

Through the event, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization plan to offer residents a nearby place to unwind during summer while giving tourists a new seasonal attraction in Seoul.
