Overview
The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyers (KDX-II) are multipurpose warships operated by the Republic of Korea Navy. Designed to replace the KDX-I destroyers, they are capable of conducting air-defense, anti-surface, and anti-submarine operations. Although smaller than the Sejong the Great-class Aegis destroyers (KDX-III), they remain strategically important vessels equipped with formidable firepower and advanced combat systems.

Development Background
Following the KDX-I program, the Republic of Korea Navy recognized the need for a new class of warship with greater operational capabilities. As the naval forces of neighboring countries continued to expand, the Navy required a destroyer that could strengthen its air-defense and anti-submarine capabilities while serving as a key asset in its maneuver fleet. The KDX-II destroyer was developed to meet that need.
