A Must-Visit in Gyeongju: Gampo Twosome Place
From an Ordinary Fishing Village to the Hottest Spot in Town
There’s a Twosome Place café in one of the seaside villages of Gampo.
Given its location, opening a café in a quiet corner of a fishing village could easily have gone one of two ways.
This one is clearly a hit.
It’s absolutely packed.
I heard there was an aquarium inside the café, so I went to see what all the fuss was about.
I had to find out what was so remarkable that everyone was talking about it.
Twosome Place Gyeongju Gampo: Location Details
The first thing you notice is a gleaming new-looking building standing out in the fishing village.
It’s pretty clear that no expense was spared.
After walking around the café, you might get the impression that everything else was sacrificed to make room for the aquarium downstairs.
This is the second floor. The spacious café I saw from outside has somehow disappeared—it’s rather cramped. At least there are windows offering views of the surroundings.
Then I headed downstairs, where the main attraction awaits.
This is where everyone has gathered. Plenty of people—including me—seem to be seeing an aquarium café for the first time in their lives. Haha.
But an awkward scene quickly unfolds. Whether seated or standing, people are only half-watching the fish as they sneak glances at one another.
The seating is arranged mainly along the walls, so instead of sitting back and quietly watching the fish, visitors inevitably end up looking directly at the people sitting in the seats.
In other words, when it’s quiet, a couple could sit across from each other and even make a proposal. But when the café is crowded, you might find yourself wishing you hadn’t taken a seat at all.
Looking more closely at the fish, I noticed that many of them are the kinds commonly used for food.
It made me wonder whether the café might have been opened by the owner of a sashimi restaurant—perhaps there’s a raw-fish restaurant hidden behind the aquarium downstairs.
Whatever the explanation, this unusual attraction is clearly drawing people in—and I came here for exactly the same reason: to see this entertaining curiosity for myself.
There’s nothing wrong with stopping to see something this unusual at least once, is there?
