Chungsudang on Jeju’s Aewol Café Street
Chungsudang Aewol, located near Handam Beach in Aewol, Jeju, is the island outpost of the popular Chungsudang café, which began in Ikseon-dong, Seoul.
The café officially opened in May 2025 and has quickly become one of the area’s most talked-about destinations.
It is a striking space where Chungsudang’s distinctive East Asian aesthetic meets the waters of the Jeju coast.

Hours: Daily, 10:30 a.m.–9:00 p.m. (last order at 8:00 p.m.)
Parking: A dedicated underground car park is available beneath the building, making parking convenient. (90 minutes free with café use.)
What to expect: This spacious two-storey café combines a bamboo-lined entrance with sweeping ocean views.
Aewol Café Street is known for its many stylish, trend-conscious cafés.
Some are open-plan spaces with a distinctly resort-like atmosphere, while others, such as Bomnal, seem almost purpose-built for taking photographs.
Walk a little farther and you’ll find plenty of cafés, each with its own character. In many ways, the choice comes down to personal taste.
I tend to prefer places that are calm and quiet, so the cafés mentioned above are not really my style.
As I continued along Aewol Café Street, I came across a café that felt much more suited to me.
Chungsudang
At first, I wondered whether it might be a restaurant, but it turned out to be a café. With Aewol wrapped in rain, the space felt especially atmospheric.
Let’s take a quick look at the exterior.
Chungsudang has two main entrances: one reached via a bamboo-lined path, as shown in the photographs, and a standard entrance on the right side of the building.
There is also a door by the windows, on the ocean-facing side, although it did not appear to be used very often.
My favourite feature was the landscaped entrance framed by bamboo.
It feels a little like entering a small garden, and stepping inside gives you a sense of freshness and clarity.
I wondered whether this might be the designers’ interpretation of the name Chungsudang.
The entrance strongly evokes a place of clear, blue water.
It is a lovely detail, and it looks beautiful in photographs.
As a photo spot, it is more than impressive.
🍵 Chungsudang Café: Featured Menu and Prices
Chungsudang’s signature stone-drip coffee and desserts made with Jeju ingredients are among its most popular offerings.

Drinks: Stone-drip coffee, egg coffee (stone-drip egg coffee), matcha cream milk, Halmang iced tea and more.
Drinks generally start at around 6,000 won, with most priced below 8,000 won.
I ordered the Halmang iced tea. (It’s in the photograph just above.)
Desserts: Carrot fromage, peanut fromage and strawberry soufflé castella. (The soufflé is made to order and takes 20–30 minutes.)
Savoury dishes: Brunch options are also available, including bracken pasta, gambas and an Aewol cheese platter.
After ordering, I took a quick look around the interior.

Signature entrance: The entrance decorated with Chungsudang’s signature bamboo grove, moss and lanterns is the café’s best-known photo spot, with visitors often queuing to take pictures.
Floor-to-ceiling ocean views: The café faces the Aewol sea directly, making it easy to enjoy the sunset and coastal scenery from almost any seat.
Floor-seating areas: The inner sections of both the first and second floors include low tables where guests remove their shoes before sitting, creating a cosier, distinctly East Asian atmosphere.
Pet-friendly: Dogs are welcome, making this a pleasant stop after a walk along Handam Beach with your companion.
💡 Tips for Visiting Chungsudang Café
Visit at sunset: Because the café faces west, visiting in the late afternoon offers a chance to see a spectacular sunset.
Busy weekends: Aewol Café Street can be crowded on weekends, so it is best to allow plenty of time for your visit.
Shall we head upstairs?
The second floor is the space I found even more appealing than the first.
It has an almost attic-like feel, while the ocean view is even more prominent.
It is also a great place to sit alone and simply let your thoughts drift.
Chungsudang Is One of Aewol Café Street’s Cornerstones
I did not stay for very long, but the longer I spent at Chungsudang Café, the more at ease I felt.
It often takes time to understand what a particular space comes to mean to us.
That feeling of ease—that sense of warmth and comfort—cannot simply be manufactured through effort and passed on to visitors.
Of all the cafés along Aewol Café Street, Chungsudang was the one I liked best.
