๐ถโโ๏ธ See More, Walk Less: Osaka Castleโs Most Efficient Route
This classic route is designed to conserve your energy while taking in the imposing main gate, towering stone walls, the castle towerโs observation deck and the best photo spotsโall in one smooth circuit.

ย
๐ [Step 1] Start at Tanimachi 4-chome Station Exit 9
There are several stations around Osaka Castle, but Tanimachi 4-chome Station (Chuo and Tanimachi lines) is your best option. It connects directly to the main gate closest to the castle tower.
After leaving the station and passing the Osaka Museum of History, youโll reach the vast moat and Otemon Gate (ๅคงๆ้), Osaka Castleโs main entrance. Take in the imposing walls as your visit officially begins.

๐ [Step 2] Admire the seamless walls and the giant Takoishi rock
Pass through Otemon Gate and continue into the castle grounds. Near Sakuramon Gate, youโll come across an enormous stone wall.
To protect the castle, massive granite stones were cut and fitted together with remarkable precision. Stop for a quick photo in front of the largest of them all, the โTakoishiโ or Octopus Rock, before moving on.

ย
๐ [Step 3] Inside the castle tower: take the elevator to the 8th-floor observatory, then walk down
Now youโve reached the highlight of the visit: the castle tower. This is where a simple energy-saving trick makes all the difference.
- Prepare a mobile QR ticket in advance so you can skip the ticket-office queue and go straight inside [Osaka Castle].
- As soon as you enter, join the elevator queue. (The elevator generally goes as far as the fifth floor.)
- Once youโve taken the elevator up, head straight to the top-floor observation deck on the eighth floor and enjoy the Osaka skyline first [Osaka Castle].
- Walk down one floor at a time on your way back, exploring the historical artifacts and miniatures displayed from the seventh floor down to the first [Osaka Castle].
- โป If you walk up from the first floor, your thighs will be burning by the time you reach the eighth floor, leaving you too exhausted to appreciate the view.
๐ [Step 4] Cool off and rest at MIRAIZA
With your legs worn out from the castle tower, head into MIRAIZA, the red-brick building directly in front.
The former government building has been renovated into a shopping complex. Itโs the perfect place to recharge in the cool air-conditioning while browsing for souvenirs, enjoying matcha ice cream or an Americano, and taking a much-needed bathroom break.

ย
๐ [Step 5] Cross Gokurakubashi Bridge and exit via Osakajokoen Station
When itโs time to leave, donโt retrace your steps. Instead, cross Gokurakubashi Bridge, located behind the castle tower to the north.
Turn around here for a picture-perfect view of the castle tower reflected in the water.
Continue straight across the bridge, pass
JO-TERRACE, a cluster of attractive cafรฉs and restaurants, and youโll arrive at JR Osakajokoen Station, where the journey ends.ย
๐ก One last tip for saving your energy
- Really donโt want to walk? Take the charming Road Train (ยฅ400 one way), a miniature train that runs from Morinomiya Station or Osakajokoen Station to the front of the castle tower [Osaka Castle]. It cuts the walking distance by more than half [Osaka Castle].
- Bring a bottle of water: Vending-machine drinks become more expensive the farther you go into the grounds, and convenience stores are hard to find. Buy a chilled bottle of water at the subway station before setting out and keep it handy.
