Exploring Yun Hsien Resort by Cable Car in Wulai, Taiwan

Taking the Wulai Cable Car to Yun Hsien Resort

Wulai Village, in northern Taiwan, is a popular destination known for its spectacular natural scenery and rich cultural heritage.

It is also home to the Amis, one of Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples, and combines distinctive traditions with modern tourism infrastructure.

Large numbers of visitors come here every year, drawn by the chance to experience both nature and culture in one trip.

Taking the Wulai Cable Car is an especially memorable way to enjoy the journey, offering beautiful views along the way.

What Makes the Wulai Cable Car Special

🎟️ Cable Car Fares

A round-trip cable car ticket generally costs about NT$300 for adults. This includes the return journey, with discounts for students and children available in some cases.
※ Some package tickets also bundle cable car admission with entry to the attraction.

🕰️ Operating Hours

The cable car generally operates from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The ride takes less than about 3–4 minutes.
Rather than running on a fixed timetable, the cable car departs when enough passengers have gathered.
During special seasons (such as firefly season), the final departure may be extended until as late as 10:30 p.m.
The best time to see fireflies is from mid-April through early to mid-May

✨ A Highlight of the Trip

The cable car offers a sweeping view of Wulai Waterfall and the village.

What to Do During the Short Ride

The ride is so short that there is not much time to do anything. Still, the cable car passes above Wulai Waterfall, so paying close attention to that view may make the fare feel a little more worthwhile.

Here’s a look in photos.

A Scenic Route to Yun Hsien Village

The Wulai Cable Car is a great way to experience the charms of Wulai Village in Taiwan.

It takes you to Yun Hsien Resort while offering beautiful views of Wulai’s natural landscape.

In fact, there is no real alternative: anyone heading to Yun Hsien Resort has to take the cable car.

Here’s what the observation deck looks like when you arrive.

There does not seem to be much in the way of organization or upkeep. There are simply a few telescopes on a table. There is also a small shop. From here, follow the stairs shown in the photo below, and you will reach Yun Hsien Resort.

Let’s take a closer look around the observation deck.

From the deck, you can see the whole of Wulai Village below.

Perhaps because it was raining, the scene had a particularly atmospheric feel.

Wulai Village Highlights

The first attraction to visit after getting off the Wulai Cable Car is Wulai Hot Springs.

Known for its natural hot springs, the area is home to spas and resorts where visitors can relax and unwind.

Take a soothing soak and give your tired body and mind a chance to recover. The journey takes about 20 minutes, and the hot springs are extremely popular with visitors.

Another major attraction to explore is Wulai Waterfall. It is about a 15-minute walk from the cable car station, and the spectacular waterfall makes an excellent subject for photographs.

Well-maintained trails around the waterfall make it possible to enjoy the scenery throughout the year.

Yun Hsien Village’s central plaza is another place worth visiting.

It is a great spot to sample local food and browse souvenirs, with a variety of street foods offering a taste of Taiwan’s diverse culinary traditions.

About 30 minutes is enough time to spend here after exploring, and the plaza offers a glimpse into Taiwan’s distinctive culture and atmosphere.
