Exceptional Broth at Chonggak Jjamppong in Gampo, Gyeongju
The Best Place to Eat When You’re Hungry in Gampo, the East Coast’s Charming Gateway

Gampo is a compact hub of attractions, including Munmu Daewang Rock, the nine-story pagoda at Hwangnyongsa Temple, and Gampo J’s CC.
In one way or another, Gampo brings together many of the East Coast’s highlights.
I don’t stop by often, but whenever I’m passing through, this is one restaurant I make a point of visiting.
It is best known for its jjamppong. The restaurant opened several years ago and is still thriving. Judging by the fact that it has expanded, it seems plenty of fellow fans have discovered it too.

Location and Parking at Chonggak Jjamppong in Gyeongju
There is room for approximately eight cars in front of the restaurant.
There are plenty of open spaces along the nearby roads, so parking nearby generally does not mean having to worry about enforcement.
If you prefer to park more neatly, there is also a free public parking lot across the street.
The restaurant is directly in front of the beach, making it an ideal stop for a walk by the sea before or after your meal.

Menu Highlights and Price Range
The mainstays are, of course, jjamppong, jjajangmyeon, and sweet-and-sour pork.
For a tourist destination, the prices are relatively reasonable, earning the restaurant a reputation as a good-value place to eat.
Chonggak Jjamppong: The signature dish, known for its rich broth packed with seafood and meat.
Spicy Jjajang: A choice for diners who like heat. Its clean, straightforward spiciness comes from chili powder rather than capsaicin.
Sweet-and-Sour Pork: Prepared in the chewy glutinous-rice style, with a substantial portion of meat and a pleasantly springy coating. It is a popular side dish and well worth ordering.
The menu also includes jjamppong with rice, jjajangmyeon, and fried dumplings. Selection may vary slightly depending on the season or restaurant conditions.

Inside Chonggak Jjamppong in Gampo

As you can see from the photos, the restaurant occupies a fairly spacious interior.
Side dishes are available for self-service, and customers can also place orders comfortably from their tables using a kiosk-style system.
If you were expecting a flashy or sophisticated Chinese restaurant, this is not quite that kind of place.
I felt the same way when I first visited shortly after it opened: the name Cheongnyeon Jjamppong suggested a practical, no-frills approach.
That is my own interpretation of the restaurant—a place where substance matters more than appearances.
So What Did I Order Today?
The jjamppong is every bit as good as the restaurant’s name suggests.
But that day, I ordered jjajangmyeon instead: a sweet, extra-large serving of yuni jjajang.
I arrived a little pressed for time and needed to eat quickly and get back on the road.
With jjamppong, you really need to enjoy the broth, and taking the time to savor it would have slowed me down.
I had tried it on my previous visit and plan to stop by again from time to time, so I can always order it next time.
The jjajangmyeon here is excellent too.

A Visit and Tasting Review of Cheongnyeon Jjamppong
Cheongnyeon Jjamppong has really grown.
Compared with a few years ago, it feels far more professional and much more accessible to a wider audience.
I am genuinely pleased to see that my prediction—that this place would do well—has continued to come true.
My posts are mainly about conveying my honest feelings.
I will naturally include useful information when I have it, but these days, AI can find basic details on its own, so I don’t feel the need to repeat everything. My guiding principle is to share what I think and feel as honestly as possible.
I visit impressive restaurants, certainly.
But I also enjoy modest, unassuming places.
I praise only those where I find genuine passion for the food and satisfied customers.
To me, Cheongnyeon Jjamppong is one of those places—a restaurant where dedication to its food translates into customer satisfaction.
That’s all from Lux.
