Min-sol Kim Faces Her First Links Challenge at the AIG Women’s Open

KLPGA Tour “super rookie” Min-sol Kim is competing in the AIG Women’s Open, the final women’s golf major of the 2026 season. After winning three times on the domestic circuit this year, Kim faces her first test against the world’s elite on a links course.

The 2026 AIG Women’s Open will be held from July 30 to August 2 at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England. Kim secured her place in the field by winning the Korea Women’s Open.

Three KLPGA Wins Highlight Kim’s Credentials

Kim won the iM Financial Open, the Mercedes-Benz 40th Korea Women’s Open and the McCall·MonA Yongpyong Open in 2026. Combined with her two victories in 2025, she has five career wins on the KLPGA Tour.

According to the Korea일보, Kim led the tour in wins, prize money, points for the season’s top player award and rookie-of-the-year points before leaving for the AIG Women’s Open. She has also earned praise for combining power off the tee with a strong short game and sound course-management skills.

Kim was ranked No. 16 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings released on July 27, 2026. She was the fourth-highest-ranked Korean player, behind Haeran Ryu at No. 3, Hyo Joo Kim at No. 4 and Sei Young Kim at No. 10.

Korea Women’s Open Victory Earns Major Championship Berth

Kim won the Mercedes-Benz 40th Korea Women’s Open in June to earn her place in the AIG Women’s Open field. The victory gave her not only a national title but also an opportunity to compete on the global major-championship stage.

At the U.S. Women’s Open earlier in the season, Kim finished tied for 54th. She said the experience taught her that difficult course setups and challenging pin positions often called for a measured approach rather than overly aggressive play.

In an interview before departing for England, Kim identified making the cut as her primary goal at the AIG Women’s Open. More than an immediate result, she said she wanted to gain valuable international experience by competing against the world’s best players.

AIG Women’s Open Marks 50th Edition with $10 Million Purse

According to the R&A and AIG, the 2026 AIG Women’s Open will offer a record $10 million purse. That is an increase of $250,000 from 2025, and the championship will celebrate its 50th edition this year.

Royal Lytham & St Annes, a historic links venue, will host the AIG Women’s Open for the sixth time. When the championship was last held there in 2018, England’s Georgia Hall captured her first major title.

Coastal winds, deep bunkers and firm ground demand precise control of ball flight and a strategic approach tailored to changing conditions. How quickly Kim adapts to an environment unlike the courses she typically plays in Korea will be one of the key questions surrounding her AIG Women’s Open debut.

What Kim’s AIG Women’s Open Challenge Means

At 20, Kim has already established herself as a title contender on the KLPGA Tour while climbing the world rankings. Her appearances at the U.S. Women’s Open and now the AIG Women’s Open are also giving her a broader foundation from which to assess a potential future move to the LPGA Tour.

This appearance is more than a single overseas tournament. It will show whether Kim’s driving distance, short game and course-management skills can translate to a links setting. Her major-championship experience could also influence the title race during the remainder of the KLPGA season.
